Ideally equipped for winter hunting trips, tours through the mountains and the snow: these are you with jackets made of down, which offer a high thermal performance at low weight. Such winter jackets do not only warm as a second or third layer of clothing, but due to their compact size and low weight make sense as additional insulation during rest breaks. Thanks to our versatile selection, you can adapt the Ultralight Insulation Winter Jacket to your individual needs!
Down - excellent insulation with very low weight
Down - the very soft feathers from the lower plumage of e.g. geese or ducks - is often used in the clothing industry. The reason: They have an extremely low weight and at the same time high thermal insulation. In this way, no cold penetrates from the outside to the inside - and the heat is retained in the opposite direction. This property has been used in the manufacture of jackets for winter or cold regions. Down jackets today belong to the classic winter jackets because they are light, warm and comfortable. The soft material does not restrict movement, is flexible and offers good weather protection, especially in dry and cold climates. The only disadvantage of down is that it loses its insulation properties when wet. It is therefore an absolute advantage in real cold winter weather. At temperatures around and above the freezing point, however, we only recommend this to a limited extent. Sometimes synthetic fibre clothing has an advantage here.
Down jackets as a middle or top layer of clothing
Down jackets can withstand temperatures as low as very low as mountain sports, trekking or hunting without any problems - especially if the appropriate under layers have been selected for the clothing, e.g. merino wool for the underwear or functional underwear made of synthetic fibre!
Goose down - and any other down - can be processed in any thickness. So you can buy both thin down jackets - like the light Cerium LT and Cerium SL jackets from Arcteryx - and thicker down jackets - like the Cerium SV or even the expedition jackets Firebee or Ceres from the same manufacturer. A generous amount of down and a waterproof Gore-Tex outer shell make the latter an ideal winter jacket for extreme weather conditions.
If you pay attention to a body-hugging cut on the jacket - as on the Cerium model - you can easily wear it as a middle layer of clothing under a classic Gore-Tex jacket, which also protects against the wind. This is where down jackets have their shortcoming: they protect against the cold, but to a certain extent let wind through. Or you can opt for the Ceres or Firebee version from Arcteryx, which combines the insulating power of down with the wind protection function of Hardshell.
Field-proven materials - down jackets for outdoor activities
Down has proven itself in practice - hardly surprising that the material can be found in many ski jackets, winter jackets or mountain sports jackets and other outdoor activities. Depending on the surface coating of the jacket, it can also be ideally used in hunting environments if it is almost silent and you want to be warm and comfortable when sitting in the winter.
You can easily combine the down winter jacket with other clothing for alpine activities, trekking or hunting in our online shop and prepare yourself in the best possible way for your experience in nature. We will be happy to answer your questions about our products and offers at +49-6071-922765!
